Dear Moms,
We are having fun at Uncle Andrew’s. There is so much to see. Mart likes to ride on the tractor with Mr. Gorman. They just bought a new one with a cab in it so Uncle Andrew says it’s safe to ride. Trixie has a new friend. She wants to bring it home. Uncle Andrew calls it a bottle lamb. The mom had triplets and couldn’t feed all of them so they have been bottle feeding it. She named it Harriet because it’s a hair sheep. I’m not sure what that means but it’s kind of cute. Harriet follows Trixie around like a puppy dog. She tried to sneak it in the house last night and into her bed. Mrs. Gorman must have eagle eyes because Trixie didn’t even get through the door and she was caught. Mrs. Gorman has lots of books to read. She has a lot of sons. Right now, I’m reading Old Yeller. Mrs. Gorman thought it might be too hard for me to read but I told her that the teachers told me I was reading at seventh grade level even though I’m only nine. Uncle Andrew says we are going to go to the train station on Monday and we should be home Tuesday.
Love, your son,
Brian Belden

Author Notes: This is part of the 25 years of Jix CWE 29 for May. It’s also my Jixaversary. I didn’t think I’d post a story because life has been crazy the past few months. When I saw the May challenge and the lamb picture I knew I could get it done. And thanks to the generosity of MaryN I will actually have something to post.
Harriet is a real hair sheep bottle lamb. She lived in my bathroom for several months. This week my daughter and son-in-law came over to help get the house and farm organized before my husband has to have his foot amputated. For four days, Harriet followed Trevor around the farm. If he could have, he would have taken him back to Green Bay.
